Summary of Job Purpose and Function 

The Regional Director role is a key senior strategic and operational role in the Village Vets leadership team, and has overarching responsibility for the performance of the clinics in the region under their remit, with effective governance to deliver high quality clinical services meeting our commitment to excellence. This exciting role reports to the Chief Operating Officer, and has responsibility for leading on the strategic direction for their clinics, delivering the Village Vets strategy and the three year business plan. Working closely with cross-functional business partners, the Regional Director will lead on clinical quality and governance, exceptional client service and team engagement, to ensure delivery of outstanding growth and sustainable commercial performance. A senior role in the business, the Regional Director will be an important ambassador for Village Vets, understanding how to lead positively by example to promote well-being and a growth mindset. 

 

Leadership:  

  • Demonstrate the values and principles of Village Vets both internally and externally, promoting the company as the leading provider of Veterinary Services in Ireland 
  • Act as a role model and lead your team with a positive mindset, providing coaching and mentoring support to direct reports (Lead Vets) and the wider team as appropriate, with the support of business partners, building positive relationships at all levels 
  • Coordinate and lead on regular clinic team meetings, facilitating the agenda and ensuring minutes and actions are generated

Commercial and operational accountabilities: 

  • Deliver Key Performance Indicators as set by the Business Plan and the COO, having full accountability for the Regional P&L, reporting on monthly performance on this basis to the COO and periodically to the Board 
  • Ensure that exceptional clinical quality is at the foundation of the commercial performance of your clinics, placing access to care as a priority, alongside preventative healthcare and the PHP 
  • Drive operational efficiencies through your clinics, optimising working patterns and resource management to maximise the delivery of quality care through the clinical teams 
  • Ensure leaders of your clinics have a full understanding of the commercial outputs of their clinics through the P&L, working within the framework of KPIs across quality, client, people and commercials 
  • Work collaboratively with the HR team to build out and execute the people plan for your clinics 
  • Have an understanding of market conditions, local, national and international, translating this knowledge into the strategic direction of your clinics and the wider business 
  • Working with the Head of Property and COO, play a leadership role in refurbishment and development projects, from conception and scoping to delivery 
  • Drive exceptional customer experience within your clinics, working closely with the Front of House and Marketing teams, ensuring every client receives the distinctive Village Vets Experience 
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR and H&S regulations across every team and clinic in your region

This is an exciting role, with autonomy in clinic leadership, to ensure that their team delivers the highest quality of patient care, alongside first class customer service and high team engagement.  Reporting to the Regional Director, this role has responsibility for delivering the business plan for the clinic working alongside other business partner functions. As a Veterinary Surgeon, they will primarily perform clinical duties in accordance with the standards and values upheld by Village Vets & the Veterinary Council of Ireland. 

 

Leadership:  

  • Be an ambassador for Village Vets, demonstrating the values and principles of the company both internally and externally. 
  • Lead the clinic team with a positive mindset, providing coaching and mentoring support to direct reports and the wider team, with the support of business partners, building positive relationships at all levels 
  • Be a clear and motivational communicator to the clinic team and Village Vets more widely and lead on communicating internal clinical, operational and group messages to the team through regular meetings, providing relevant feedback to the CST/AM where appropriate

  • Ensure clinical compliance with new initiatives, protocols and purchasing 
  • Through line management of the veterinary team, identify development needs and provide or coordinate clinical mentorship to ensure clinical best practice and individual vet career progression, working with the CST 
  • Support the Head RVN in ensuring the nursing and ACA teams deliver exceptional care as a key part of the clinical team 
  • Promote preventative healthcare  (to include but not limited to vaccinations, parasite prevention, PHP and Pet Insurance etc) to all clients to facilitate the highest level of veterinary care 
  • Lead on a culture of valuing the clinical work delivered by the team, to ensure transparency around the cost of clinical work, estimating, and accurate billing 

 

Operational responsibilities: 

  • Working with the Regional Director and business partners, play a key role in the development of the annual business plan for the clinic, and then lead on the delivery of this plan, across quality, people, client and commercial sustainability 
  • Be accountable at clinic level for achieving and surpassing yearly and monthly clinic targets across the Profit and Loss account, and broadly across Key Performance Indicators 
  • Work with the Regional Director to report on the clinic performance on a monthly basis 
  • Lead on ensuring clinic compliance with any new operational initiatives and protocols 
  • Lead on team engagement, ensuring all team members have an effective relationship with their line manager, to facilitate a culture of feedback and development, with psychological safety at its core, and thereby driving retention

Job purpose

As an Orthopaedic Veterinary Surgeon, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional animal care, adhering to the highest standards set by Village Vets and the Veterinary Council of Ireland. Your primary focus will be performing advanced orthopaedic procedures, while fostering positive relationships with both staff and clients to ensure outstanding service. Beyond your surgical expertise, you will support the overall clinic operations by efficiently handling secondary responsibilities, collaborating closely with the Lead Vet and Regional Director to maintain seamless clinic performance and elevate patient care.

 

Principal accountabilities:

  • Perform orthopaedic surgery across a range of first opinion orthopaedic conditions
  • Manage the second opinion orthopaedic email service, providing timely advice on orthopaedic case management and ensure a constant stream of orthopaedic caseload.
  • Provide second opinion consultations and expert orthopaedic advice to support primary care clinics across VillageVets & ensure correct billing
  • Provide clinical training on orthopaedic examinations to new and recent graduates, as part of our VetVision New Graduate program
  • Investigate and treat cases within the practice as completely as possible within the practice before referring, according to the needs of the patient & maintain accurate records
  • Assume full responsibility for patients, ensuring that care after-hours or after referral is appropriate and of the highest standard, and that handover of cases is done effectively
  • Communicate effectively with clients, giving estimates and relevant information on diagnostics and treatment plans to allow informed decision-making regarding treatment.
  • Provide and maintain an outstanding client experience throughout the whole practice across all mediums (face-to-face, phone, email, social media, website etc.)
  • Communicate effectively with the team in the clinic to ensure patients and clients are treated with the highest level of care and compassion, to the standard upheld by Village Vets
  • Maintain membership of the VCI and be familiar with the legislation affecting the practice of veterinary medicine in Ireland.
  • Adhere to the guidelines of practice as stated in the VCI Guide to Professional Conduct and remain up to date with CPD requirements.
  • Behave at all times in a manner which serves to instil confidence in our profession in the minds of the team, individual clients and the wider general public.
  • Carry out any ad hoc veterinary or administrative duties that may arise through the normal course of the day within the clinic or as advised by head nurse/lead vet.

 

Administrative duties:

  • Complete referral letters and accompanying medical histories
  • Prepare all relevant paperwork for external laboratories
  • Complete insurance claim forms if and when necessary

Previous experience of leading an orthopaedic department
Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to perform a range of first opinion orthopaedic surgeries including TPLO, TTA or CWLO; TTT and trochleoplasty for luxating patella, FHO, simple and comminuted fractures using pins, locking plates or Ex Fix where necessary.
  • Ability to provide second opinion advice on orthopaedic radiographs and case management to the primary care clinics across VillageVets.
  • Ability to provide second opinion consultations, to provide expert orthopaedic clinical knowledge and support the primary care clinics across VillageVets.
  • Excellent communication skills (writte & oral).
  • Ability to work well in a fast paced environment.
