  • Provide excellent client care through consult support, advice, and front‑of‑house assistance when required
  • Maintain clinic cleanliness, hygiene, and equipment to the highest standards

  • Surgical proficiency in ECC procedures
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients, even in stressful or emotional situations.
  • Professional, self‑motivated, and trustworthy, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a busy ECC team.
  • Desirable: Additional ECC‑specific qualifications and previous experience in a fast‑paced emergency hospital.

Location: Village Vets Ashbourne or Greyabbey or Dundrum Reports to: Lead Vet and Head Nurse Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 per annum pro-rated for weekends only (DOE) We have 3 hospitals which now operate 24 hours a day, providing continuous, high‑quality care to our clients and their pets. We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Nurse (minimum 5 years’ experience) with a strong interest in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) to join our established and growing team. As part of our dedicated ECC team, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional care during weekend shifts, working alongside passionate clinical professionals in a supportive and progressive environment. You’ll contribute to maintaining the high standards of our 24/7 emergency service, ensuring gold‑standard treatment for both new and existing clients. About the Role As part of our team, you will:
  • Provide continuous, attentive nursing care to critically ill or injured patients, monitoring vital signs and assessing pain levels
  • Support veterinarians during emergency procedures, including triage, resuscitation, wound management, and surgery
  • Carry out essential medical procedures such as placing IV catheters, administering medications and fluids, and performing diagnostic tests
  • Assist with anaesthesia induction, monitoring, and post‑operative recovery for critical patients
  • Maintain strict infection control standards and ensure a clean, sterile environment
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with pet owners, providing updates and guidance on treatment and aftercare
  • Work closely with vets, nurses, and support staff to deliver cohesive, high‑quality emergency care
  • Help train and mentor junior team members in ECC protocols and techniques
  • Manage and maintain ECC equipment and monitor stock levels to support efficient emergency response
  • Keep detailed, accurate medical records and provide thorough handovers between shifts
  • Stay engaged in continuing education to maintain and advance your ECC skills
About You Our ideal candidate will:
  • Qualified and VCI registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN)
  • 5+ years’ experience as a qualified RVN in small animal practice
  • This role demands strong clinical skills, resilience, and compassion to deliver high-quality care to patients in urgent need
  • Highly motivated, hard-working, and a team player
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Passionate about delivering gold-standard patient and client care
  • An ECC Certificate is desirable
