Village Vets Rathfarnham began life caring for the animals of our neighbouring shelter, now the National SPCA (NSPCA), formerly the DSPCA, and that spirit has stayed at the heart of everything we do since. We joined the Village Vets family in 2019, but the values haven’t changed: a close-knit local team, a genuine love of animals, and a real connection to the Rathfarnham community we’ve served for years.

Nestled in the Dublin Mountains, ours is one of the most distinctive Village Vets clinics, and we’re proud to keep supporting the NSPCA today, from discounts for their supporters to helping run their Pet Hotel.

About Village Vets Rathfarnham

Growing up next to the NSPCA gave our clinic a particular kind of purpose. Every surgery room, every X-ray and every hour of care was built around looking after animals who often arrived with nowhere else to go, and that same standard is what you and your pet get today. It’s why we still offer discounts to NSPCA supporters and help run their Pet Hotel — the relationship isn’t a footnote, it’s where we came from.

That history shows up in how the clinic is built: a separate dog and cat ward, a dedicated imaging room, and two surgery rooms capable of more complex orthopaedic work, because rescue and rehabilitation demanded it long before it became routine care for the wider community. Today, the same equipment — X-ray, ultrasound, an in-house lab and a full dental suite — plus our role as a secondary referral site for diagnostic imaging and cardiology, means your own pet gets that same level of care.

You’ll feel it in the setting too. Tucked into the Dublin Mountains, the grounds have a walking loop that staff and clients use to clear their heads between appointments, and there’s plenty of free parking, including an overflow car park, so getting here is never the hard part.

We have a separate dog and cat ward, a prep room with an x-ray machine and two surgery rooms, including facilities for more complex orthopaedic procedures. We offer discounts to supporters of the DSPCA and also help to facilitate their boarding hotel.

Clients can make use of the plenty of free parking we have at the clinic, which includes an overflow car park.

We are conveniently located beside the National SPCA (NSPCA) shelter, just off Mount Venus Road.

Public transport

The clinic is set back at the edge of the Dublin Mountains, so it isn’t on a direct bus route and there’s no train or Luas service nearby, driving is the practical way to reach us. Rathfarnham village itself is well served by Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland routes 16, 15B, 74, S6 and 161, a short drive from the clinic.
