Here is a comprehensive list of do’s and don’ts which you should always bear in mind these holidays:

1.      Christmas tree tips:

  •  Always keep your Christmas tree far from the sight of your pets probably in a corner. Even then if your cat or dog is fascinated by it and tries jumping over it, try placing a noisy object near the tree to impede your pet’s actions.
  • Tinsels are such mesmerizing objects to cats and dogs. Post your tinsel as high as possible to keep it out of the reach of your pet. Ingesting of the same can block the intestines of your pets.
  • Make it a point to never decorate the lower branches of the tree with electric lights. It can be a potential burning as well as shocking hazard and your pet might even get tangled in the lights and harm itself.
  • Don’t ever forget to area clear the area of pine needles if you are buying the tree for the first time. Needles can not only harm the pet but swallowing needles may even puncture the intestines of your pet.

2.      Other Christmas holidays tips:

  •   Keep holly, mistletoe and poinsettia plants away from cats and dogs as much as possible. These are poisonous to dogs and cats.
  •  Believe it or not, edible ornaments like cranberry or popcorn strings are a sight of fascination to pets. Attack of the pets on edible ornaments will not only harm your pets but will also ruin the decorations.
  •  Any kind of exposed indoor or outdoor wires must be taped to walls or other appropriate areas to prevent any shock or burning hazard
  •  Make sure that the wax candles as totally out of the reach of your pets. Interaction of pets with candles can not only burn them but can also lead to burning of your furniture and other essentials.
  • Also never feed your pets with sugary treats. This is because sugar contains theobromine which can cause gastrointestinal troubles to your pets.
