This week has seen unprecedented weather with temperatures hitting 30 degrees with no let up in sight. This was preceded with very warm spells already. These increased temperatures have had a knock on effect on our pets with Village Vets clinics seeing record numbers of heat stroke cases. On the weekend of 23rd & 24th June, our Vet saw eleven heat related cases where pets had to be admitted for intensive care. In veterinary terms, this is a ‘red weather alert’ for pets.
To help pet owners, we have arranged free first aid information classes for the general public during the week commencing 2nd July. These classes will cover signs of heat stress and heat stroke and what to do if your pet is affected by either of these.
They will be held in local parks around Meath and Dublin where pets owners traditionally walk their dogs. These information sessions will be approximately 30 minutes long and will be held in the evening times to reduce the possibility of heat stress on pets (and their owners).
The locations of these classes will be:
Monday 2nd July
- 6pm Ashbourne Park near the playground.
- 8pm Dunshaughlin Park near the entrance to the playground.
Tuesday 3rd July
- 6pm Porterstown Park, Clonsilla in front of the gym.
- 8pm Dunboyne Park beside Skatepark.
Wednesday 4th July
- 6pm Saint Anne's Park, at the wooden sculpture beside the seafront.
- 8pm Behind The Hole in the Wall Pub at the Phoenix Park.
Thursday 5th July
- 6pm Deerpark beside the dog park in Stillorgan.
- 8pm Marley Park beside the dog park.
