  • Assist veterinary surgeons during procedures such as anaesthetics, surgeries, and treatments. 
  • Administer treatments (e.g., injections, medication, fluid therapy, dressings, first aid, euthanasia) as directed, including minor surgical procedures where permitted. 
  • Nurse and care for patients to the highest standards, ensuring proper administration of prescribed medications and safe handling of drugs. 
  • Ensure medications and clinical records are up-to-date and accurate. 
  • Maintain clinic hygiene, including cleaning equipment and animal quarters to clinic standards. 
  Administrative and Operational Management: 
  • Manage team schedules, including rotas, annual leave, and sick leave (recorded on the People system). 
  • Oversee stock control, monitor usage to prevent waste, and record the Cost of Sale documents. 
  • Handle financial tasks such as petty cash, lodgements, bad debt control, and end-of-month cash recording. 
  • Review and verify invoices and process payroll updates. 
  • Manage compliance, including checking dosimeters, completing incident report forms, and monitoring PHP adherence as a PHP Champion. 
  Client and Staff Engagement: 
  • Ensure an outstanding client experience, including promoting Pet Health Plans to support optimal care. 
  • Oversee front-of-house duties, maintaining an efficient and welcoming reception. 
  • Respond to Google reviews to engage with client feedback and enhance service reputation. 
  • Team 1-2-1s and reviews 
  • Deliver training and clinical support for new graduate nurses and new RVNs to the business with support of nursing mentors 
  • Provide additional training to staff and assist with uniform orders.

We have two consulting rooms, separate dog and cat wards, a surgical theatre, diagnostic facilities including an x-ray room, and a dental room. We have a light and comfortable reception area, and we’re passionate about fear-free techniques to help make every one of our patients’ visits as comfortable as possible. The Coolock clinic is conveniently located in the Malahide Road industrial park and our clients and team members can take advantage of the large, free car park shared by all of our neighbours.      Within Village Vets we have a Clinical Support Team and a Surgical Mentor that can provide you with the training you may need.   Our family veterinary practice is constantly growing as a result of the fantastic work our Vets, Nurses and care team do every day. Job description: Lead Veterinary Surgeon  Location : Village Vets  Reports to : Regional Director    Summary of Job Purpose and Function  The Lead Veterinary Surgeon role is a key role in the Village Vets leadership team, and has overarching responsibility for the holistic performance of the clinic and team under their leadership. This is an exciting role, with autonomy in clinic leadership, to ensure that their team delivers the highest quality of patient care, alongside first class customer service and high team engagement.  Reporting to the Regional Director, this role has responsibility for delivering the business plan for the clinic working alongside other business partner functions. As a Veterinary Surgeon, they will primarily perform clinical duties in accordance with the standards and values upheld by Village Vets & the Veterinary Council of Ireland.    Leadership:  
  • Be an ambassador for Village Vets, demonstrating the values and principles of the company both internally and externally 
  • Lead the clinic team with a positive mindset, providing coaching and mentoring support to direct reports and the wider team, with the support of business partners, building positive relationships at all levels 
  • Be a clear and motivational communicator to the clinic team and Village Vets more widely and lead on communicating internal clinical, operational and group messages to the team through regular meetings, providing relevant feedback to the CST/AM where appropriate

  • Assume full responsibility for patients, ensuring that care after-hours or after referral is appropriate and of the highest standard, and that handover of cases is done effectively 
  • Keep medical records up to date and accurate 
  • Prescribe and dispense medications correctly and safely, and help maintain adequate stock levels 
  • Communicate effectively with clients, giving estimates and relevant information on diagnostics and treatment plans to allow informed decision-making regarding treatment. 
  • Provide and maintain an outstanding client experience throughout the whole practice across all mediums (face-to-face, phone, email, social media, website etc.) 
  • Promote the Pet Health Plans and Pet Insurance to all clients to facilitate the highest level of veterinary care.
