Veterinary Surgeon (Coolock)

We are looking for a Registered Veterinary Surgeon to come and join our team of highly skilled vets and nurses at our newly renovated practice based in Coolock. Our Coolock branch joined as a proud member of the Village Vets family in 2016 and has recently undergone renovations to enhance our services and provide an even better experience for our client. We have two consulting rooms, separate dog and cat wards, a surgical theatre, diagnostic facilities including an x-ray room, and a dental room. We have a light and comfortable reception area, and we’re passionate about fear-free techniques to help make every one of our patients’ visits as comfortable as possible. The Coolock clinic is conveniently located in the Malahide Road industrial park and our clients and team members can take advantage of the large, free car park shared by all of our neighbours.
Within Village Vets we have a Clinical Support Team and a Surgical Mentor that can provide you with the training you may need.
Our family veterinary practice is constantly growing as a result of the fantastic work our Vets, Nurses and care team do every day. We are looking for great people to join our team.
Within our teams we have experienced vets and nurses including Certificate holders in Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Endoscopy, ECC and Anaesthesia.
We operate to a very high standard of Veterinary Medicine and our practice is fully equipped with excellent surgical, diagnostic, and medical equipment.

We do not have any out of hours service during the week or weekends.
Job purpose
To conduct primary responsibilities as a veterinary surgeon in accordance with the standards and values upheld by Village Vets & the Veterinary Council of Ireland, contributing to the highest quality animal care, excellent staff relationships & customer service. In addition, carry out secondary responsibility duties, to assist in the efficient running of the veterinary clinic as directed by the Lead Vet or Regional Director.
Principal accountabilities:
- Diagnose, treat and care for all patients to the standard upheld by Village Vets
- Investigate and treat cases within the practice as completely as possible within the practice before referring, according to the needs of the patient
- Assume full responsibility for patients, ensuring that care after-hours or after referral is appropriate and of the highest standard, and that handover of cases is done effectively
- Keep medical records up to date and accurate
- Prescribe and dispense medications correctly and safely, and help maintain adequate stock levels
- Communicate effectively with clients, giving estimates and relevant information on diagnostics and treatment plans to allow informed decision-making regarding treatment.
- Provide and maintain an outstanding client experience throughout the whole practice across all mediums (face-to-face, phone, email, social media, website etc.)
- Promote the Pet Health Plans and Pet Insurance to all clients to facilitate the highest level of veterinary care.
- Communicate effectively with the team in the clinic to ensure patients and clients are treated with the highest level of care and compassion, to the standard upheld by Village Vets
- Provide appropriate veterinary training to all staff in order to assist with best practice measures.
- Help maintain the appearance and daily running of the clinic to the standard upheld by Village Vets
- Ensure that all bills are priced correctly
- Maintain membership of the VCI and be familiar with the legislation affecting the practice of veterinary medicine in Ireland.
- Adhere to the guidelines of practice as stated in the VCI Guide to Professional Conduct and remain up to date with CPD requirements.
- Behave at all times in a manner which serves to instil confidence in our profession in the minds of the team, individual clients and the wider general public.
- Carry out any ad hoc veterinary or administrative duties that may arise through the normal course of the day within the clinic or as advised by head nurse/lead vet.
- Complete all tasks, duties and procedures efficiently and accurately.
- Be responsible for creating and maintaining an outstanding client experience throughout the whole team.
Administrative duties:
- Complete referral letters and accompanying medical histories.
- Prepare all relevant paperwork for external laboratories.
- Complete pet passports where applicable.
- Sign off vaccination records.
- Complete insurance claim forms if and when necessary.
- While at work all staff are required to take care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts and omissions & co-operate with Village Vets policies and procedures.
Ability to commute/relocate:
- Dublin: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
