Getting a Cat?

Bringing home a new kitten is thrilling but can feel overwhelming. At Village Vets, we guide you through every step—vaccinations, microchipping, parasite prevention, neutering, and more—ensuring your cat grows up healthy, happy, and well cared for.

About

Bringing a new kitten into your home is a wonderful milestone. With so much to consider—vaccinations, microchipping, worming, and neutering—it’s natural to feel a bit unsure. At Village Vets, we’re here to put your mind at ease and support you throughout your cat’s life, from those adorable early weeks to their happy senior years. Kitten Vaccinations: Vaccinations protect your cat from serious, sometimes deadly, illnesses. They also help prevent the spread of diseases among other cats. Most catteries and insurance providers require proof of vaccination.

At Village Vets, we recommend vaccines against Cat Flu (feline herpes and calicivirus), Cat Enteritis (feline panleukopaenia), and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV). Even adult cats with no vaccination history can start a vaccination schedule at any time. Microchipping: A microchip offers permanent identification for your cat. Unlike collars or tags that can be lost, a microchip ensures your lost pet has a better chance of finding their way back home. Kittens can be microchipped as early as five weeks, and adult cats can be scanned to confirm an existing chip or get a new one placed.

Parasite Prevention (Worms and More): Regular parasite prevention is essential for a healthy cat. Fleas, ticks, and worms aren’t just nuisances—they can cause serious health problems and even spread to humans. Year-round prevention helps avoid costly treatments and stress later on. Our vets will tailor a parasite prevention plan based on your cat’s age, lifestyle, and environment. Neutering: Neutering helps control pet overpopulation while promoting your cat’s long-term health.

It can reduce certain diseases and curb unwanted behaviors like spraying. Neutered cats are often safer, as they’re less inclined to roam and encounter threats. By neutering your cat, you’re making a responsible choice for their well-being and the greater feline community. Pet Health Plan: At any stage of your cat’s life, you can join our Pet Health Plan to access discounted preventive treatments and gain peace of mind, knowing your companion’s health needs are covered.
